E170 Corrosion Protection Innovation

E170 is a new patented material applied to critical equipment such as flanges, valves, bearing housings, and long-term storage parts.

Among many types of corrosion, E170 is specially formulated to prevent galvanic corrosion by creating a moisture-free encapsulation with slow-release corrosion-inhibiting oils that stop corrosion at the source. Upon application, E170 shrinks around the substrate, creating a perfect seal against ingress.

Flanges and valves are complex assemblies with a far greater risk of corrosion than the pipes they are attached to. Any structure constructed from multiple components and secured with bolts inherently accelerates corrosion: connecting surfaces and voids promote crevice corrosion, differing metals cause galvanic corrosion, and coating damage during assembly allows corrosion to enter the system from the start.

In marine environments, saltwater, constant moisture, and unstable conditions can lead to bolts corroding within weeks and flanges failing within two years of construction. Offshore or onshore, any structure in such an environment will start to corrode at the flanges and bolts or in construction crevices, creating safety compromises that require constant maintenance or replacement.

E170 prevents deterioration of stored components and equipment. Applications have eliminated failure rates in stored assemblies and increased equipment lifetimes by 500% or more.
